The Columbia Juniors 18-Black squad lost their first match of the day Friday at the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships in Dallas, Texas, falling to Metro Volleyball of Washington D.C. 21-25, 25-20, 10-15 before bouncing back to win its next two matches.
I just told them we were right in it. (Metro) did not beat us. We beat ourselves. We should have beaten them in two (games), but we came out flat, Columbia Juniors coach John Lengphounpraseut said. I told them we have to clean up our passing game, which they did. This is a very experienced group of players at this level, and they know what the expectations are.
Taking advantage of a dominant middle attack, Columbia Juniors topped the Albuquerque (N.M.) Rebels 25-15, 25-21 and the Northwest Junior Elite out of Bellevue 25-19, 25-14.
We were overmatched against New Mexico. Everything worked better, Lengphounpraseut said. They couldnt match up against (former Walla Walla star) Tori Crawford and Courtney Dietrich. I think the first game we pretty much had them under control.
As good as they were against Albuquerque, Columbia Juniors was even better against Northwest Juniors, earning an efficient two-set sweep.
We were pretty much dominant, especially in the second set, Lengphounpraseut said.
