Tukwila’s Mallory Kent took the second-round lead at the Washington State Women’s Amateur at Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club in Federal Way.

Olympia’s Lisa Smego holds a six-stroke lead after two rounds in the Washington State Senior Women’s Amateur.

Kent fired a 3-over-par 75 to lead Renton’s Lauren Sewell by two strokes heading into today’s final round.

Richland’s Kristin Strankman answered Tuesday’s score of 81 with an 83 on Wednesday and sits in 16th place.

Richland’s Hope Neidhold fired a second consecutive 92 for a two-round total of 184.

Baseball

Beetles 12, Titans 6: Twin City dropped the opener of a Senior Legion doubleheader against visiting Yakima, despite a double and two RBI from Tyler Kjarmo.

The score from the second game of the doubleheader was not available.

Yakima took the second game as well, getting seven strikeouts from starter Trenton Dupre.

Junior Flames 9-3, Dusters 2-2: Matt True picked up the win on the mound and drove in the winning run in the second game as the Hanford Junior Flames (19-9 overall, 7-3 league) completed a sweep of the Kennewick Dusters at Hanford High School.

With the game tied in the bottom of the eighth with one out and the bases loaded, True singled up the middle to score Mitch Godwin for the win.

In the opener, Tanner Heiman pitched a complete game, striking out seven, while Godwin drove in two runs.

Track and field

Efraimson to run at World Youth Championships: Alexa Efraimson, representing the Evergreen Storm Track Club, won the girls 1,500 meters at the World Youth Track and Field Trials in Edwardsville, Ill.

Alexis Fuller, also running for Evergreen Storm, finished eighth in the final of the girls 800.

Finishing in a time of 4:23.12, Efraimson, a Camas High School junior-to-be, earned a trip to Donetsk, a city of about 1 million inhabitants, for next month’s championships.
