Letter: Personal fireworks should be banned to prevent fires

June 26, 2013

Fireworks ban

We recently had three big wild fires. The Mid-Columbia has had less than half of its annual rainfall to date. Even though it looks like it is going to rain, we will not make up half of the amount we should have had by July 4.

I suggest to the city fathers that they cancel personal fireworks this year. Even in a normal year, a building or a field catches fire because of fireworks. The community fireworks could go on, especially if it is possible for a fire truck to be in attendance.
