WHL: Tri-City Americans open preseason Aug. 30

The Tri-City Americans will open their 26th season with six preseason tournament games and two exhibition games against rival Spokane.

The regular-season schedule will be released today, but the Kamloops Daily News received a preliminary draft of the regular-season schedule.

Swift Current and Regina will open the season Sept. 19 at Regina, while eight games are scheduled for Sept. 20. The Americans’ season opener is slated for Sept. 21 against rival Spokane at Toyota Center. Tri-City then will host Prince George on Sept. 22.

The regular season ends March 16, with playoffs scheduled to start March 21.

The Americans will participate in the Everett Preseason Tournament for the 10th consecutive year Aug. 30-Sept. 1 at Comcast Arena.

Tri-City will host the Red Lion Hotels Preseason Tournament on Sept. 5-7 at Toyota Center, then will play a home-and-home series with the Chiefs. The teams will play Sept. 11 at Spokane and Sept. 14 at Toyota Center.

At the Everett tournament, the Americans will play Seattle on Aug. 30, the Portland Winterhawks on Aug. 31 and the Victoria Royals on Sept. All games are at 11:30 a.m.

Americans season ticket holders will receive free tickets to the Tri-City games during their tournament. The Americans play the Kootenay Ice on Sept. 5, the Seattle Thunderbirds on Sept. 6 and Spokane on Sept. 7. All games are at 7:05 p.m.

Other games include Everett vs. Portland (11 a.m.) and Kootenay vs. Spokane (3 p.m.) on Friday, and Kootenay vs. Everett (11 a.m.) and Portland vs. Seattle (3 p.m.) on Saturday.

Individual game tickets for the Red Lion Tournament are $10 per game for adults, or $49 for all seven games.
