Letter: Arlene's Flowers should obey Washington laws

June 25, 2013

Why is it so hard for people to understand? The owner of Arlene's Flowers broke the law. She is welcome to believe as she does. She is just simply not allowed to take it into her business dealings. The state attorney general is correct in filing a lawsuit, giving notice that this prejudice and persecution against people wishing to marry someone of their own sex is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.

It's not "forcing the Jewish deli to sell pork." No one is forcing anyone to do anything, except comply with the laws in our state, which say that it is illegal to deny custom to someone based on their race, creed, color, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, honorably discharged veteran or military status, status as a mother breastfeeding her child, the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal by a person with a disability.
