— A woman was hit and killed by an empty coal train passing through Ephrata on Saturday morning.

The Columbia Basin Herald reported that the pedestrian was hit at the Amtrak depot just before 10 a.m. The train was on its way from British Columbia to Montana.

The Grant County sheriff’s office says the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She will not be identified until her family is notified.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe says train traffic through the area was stopped for about two hours.
