Sunnyside man found dead in abandoned car's trunk

— A 23-year-old Sunnyside man was found dead in a car parked on a remote area of the Yakama Reservation on Friday.

Alberto Gabriel Martinez was found dead in the trunk of a green 1998 Honda Civic off of Highway 97 near Oak Springs Road shortly after noon.

Officials suspect that Martinez was the victim of a homicide, but say that the cause of death has not yet been determined.

An autopsy has not been scheduled yet, officials said.

The Yakama Nation Police Department initially responded, but the investigation has been turned over to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office

The car Martinez was found in belongs to his girlfriend, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials say Martinez was last seen alive on Thursday night.
