Pasco, Kennewick split legion baseball twinbill

Spencer Bennion threw a complete game, striking out four and was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs as the Pasco Sun Devils shocked the Kennewick Bandits in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Columbia Basin College on Wednesday, winning 7-5.

Pasco, which is in last in the Senior Legion standings, banged out 10 hits in the second game, as Jesse Briones was 2-for-4 and Zach Garcia was 2-for-3.

Kennewick won the opener 8-0.

Flames 4-6, Beetles 3-10: Finn McMichael drove in the winning run with an RBI single with one out in the ninth inning, lifting Hanford to a 4-3 win over Yakima in Game 1 of a CWL Senior League doubleheader at Waits Field.

The Beetles had a chance to pull ahead in the top of the ninth, but Flames catcher Ryan Neal threw out a Yakima runner trying to steal second with the go-ahead runner on third base.

In the nightcap, the Beetles exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning off Hanford starter Jacob Anderson before Jamie Hopp quieted Yakima’s bats with three scoreless innings.

Trailing 10-2 after four innings, the Flames started coming back, getting two in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth to cut it to 10-6.

“We started chipping away, Flames’ style. We had that comeback feeling, but we hit into a double play,” Hanford manager Nat Roe said.

Hanford Junior Flames 13, Pasco 3 (9): Parker Darnell was 3-for-4 with three RBIs as the Junior Flames defeated the visiting Sun Devils.

The two teams played twice at Pasco on Tuesday, with Hanford winning 10-0 and 13-0.
