Letter: Road crew needs to show residents some courtesy

June 19, 2013

I have been a driver for a long time, and to be told that if I do not slow down for a road crew, I will be fined because of their safety, well, I just want to clarify something here.

I have had road crew on my street since March and as the crew members come and go to work, they are driving their vehicles well over the speed limit. Mind you, this is a neighborhood where children play and sometimes an animal gets out.

I am not done! They are driving company vehicles (bulldozers, water trucks, asphalt trucks, etc., the same way through the neighborhood as well! Where is the safety here?

Why are they allowed to act like this? We get fined to protect their safety. How dare they act like our children don't matter! I and other neighbors have contacted the road crew outfit about their actions and we have not heard from them. They are lucky no child has been injured because of their ignorance and absence of safety measures.
