Letter: Should cruelty to animals and be considered sin?

June 17, 2013

The photo of the emaciated horse on the front page of the June 6 Herald brought tears to my eyes, then the anger kicked in.

God gave humans dominion over the things he had created. Does that give humankind the right to abuse, neglect, torture our animals, pets and even the other members of the human race? Animals, pets and family members, friends, humans, cannot live on love alone. Should the above actions be classified as sin along with lying, stealing, etc.? My heart goes out to those receiving such treatment, and also the ones responsible for such happenings.

May God have mercy!
