Letter: State needs mandatory background checks for all firearm sales

June 17, 2013

As usual, many people believe that Washington's gun laws should allow for no criminal background checks on any sale involving firearms.

The problem is there will always be someone who has a disturbing criminal or psychiatric illness history, and that person would get access to a lethal instrument like a firearm.

Gun laws in our state must include mandatory, FBI-linked background checks on every sale, be it private or not.

I strongly make the point that now is the time to prevent more tragedies by keeping the wrong people from accessing a firearm.
