Letter: Grandvie Gold Star Mothers Memorial was first

June 14, 2013

Congratulations on the new Gold Star Mothers Memorial in Pasco.

While the Herald's recent article stated it was the first official Gold Star Mothers plaque in Washington, one could take that as meaning it was the first Gold Star Mothers memorial in Washington. It is not.

That honor goes to Grandview, where a simple Gold Star Mothers Memorial was built at Legion Park as part of an Eagle Scout Project in 2011. Many of the people responsible for the Pasco memorial provided financial support for and were present at the dedication of the Grandview memorial.

Each community needs such memorials to honor those mothers and families who have lost a son or daughter in service to our country. Thank you for informing the public of this memorial.
