Letter: Fundraiser teaches Cub Scout lesson in community service

June 13, 2013

I would like to thank the many members of our community who participated in the yard sale this weekend to benefit a local family whose husband and father is fighting cancer.

I was inspired by those who made donations of items, those who donated countless hours to put on the event and those who purchased items and gave generously from their hearts.

Every penny went to the family to help with the great financial burden of cancer treatment. More than $11,000 was raised, which is truly remarkable. I'm sure those who selflessly served feel blessed to have been part of such an amazing event.

My son was so excited to dress up in his Cub Scout uniform and volunteer at the bake sale for a short time. I'm grateful he was able to to serve side-by-side with such wonderful people. This is the type of simple service, given so generously by so many, that makes our community a great place to live.
