Letter: Vote yes on aquatic center

June 10, 2013

In response to a Karen Brun's May 20 letter, attempting to discredit the Tri-Cities Regional Public Facility decision to advance the Tri-Cities Family Aquatic Center to the voters, here are the facts:

The Regional PFD is made up of three members each from Kennewick, Pasco and Richland. The board includes the mayor of each city. This nine-member board elected by vote a "president" to preside over its meetings. Board members from Richland and Kennewick provided six of the nine "yes" votes to locate the Tri-Cities regional aquatic center in Pasco.

The PFD was created by public demand, and the aquatic center chosen by this board because it is what the public at large has spent years asking for.

The location is very good -- on a freeway with convenient access. This process has been citizen driven, I know because I started this regional effort. I'm proud of Richland Mayor John Fox, Kennewick Mayor Steve Young and Pasco Mayor Matt Watkins for taking over this effort and having the courage to improve our Tri-City community.

There seems to by three kinds of people: those who make it happen, those who watch it happen and complain, and those who wonder what happened. Vote yes for the aquatic center.
