Flames get boost from hungry arms

By the Tri-City Herald staffJune 8, 2013

Aaron Enderlin and Brandon Peterson aren’t necessarily the biggest names on the Hanford Flames’ pitching staff this year, not with a handful of college arms on the roster, anyway.

But they sure did the job during an American Legion doubleheader sweep Saturday, holding the Portland Lobos in check for most of the day at Waits Field in Richland.

Enderlin allowed three runs in the third but was otherwise untouched through five innings during a 4-3 Game 1 win. Jake Browne provided most of the scoring during a four-run first inning, doubling in a pair of runs and then scoring.

In Game 2, Peterson went the distance, allowing four runs on 11 hits through seven full, while Keenan Hatfield, Finn McMichael, Brady Heid and Andrew Reichenbach each had two hits for the Flames in a 7-4 victory.

“Enderlin was mostly locating well, but also changing speeds. He was really up and down, and in and out,” Hanford coach Nat Roe said. “I wouldn’t say Brandon had a strong outing, but he was crafty. He located well, and his defense made plays behind him. He pitched with the heart of a lion.”

Trevor Jones hit a two-run single in the fifth to give the Flames a 4-1 lead.
