Connell's Thompson named Washington's top softball player

June 7, 2013

Ashley Thompson can add another award to a growing list.

Connell’s outstanding softball player was named the Gatorade Washington Softball Player of the Year after leading the Eagles to their third straight Class 1A state championship.

Thompson won every game in the pitcher’s circle for the 27-0 Eagles, posting a minuscule 0.19 ERA and a remarkable 345 strikeouts in 144 innings. She threw 11 no-hitters —including seven in a row — and allowed just 22 hits.

At the plate, she hit .667 with 13 home runs, 63 runs scored, 53 RBIs and 48 walks for an astronomical OPS (slugging plus on-base percentages) of 2.339.

The BYU-bound Thompson finished her career with two impressive state records — 1,117 career strikeouts and 51 home runs.

The state award puts Thompson in the running for Gatorade national player of the year award, to be announced later this month.
