Epic: Good but not epic

The animated 3D and 2D feature Epic is done by Chris Wedge, who did the original Ice Age. Epic pits good against evil in a forest setting. The fairylike creatures who are good are environmentally correct. All things they do maintain the forest and keep nature in balance.

The bad guys sow decay wherever they go.

Giving voice to the characters are Colin Farrell, Beyonce Knowles, Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz and Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler.

Wedge's film has a great message, some decent sequences and too many lame attempts at humor. But kids will find it riveting, and that's probably the point. Wedge's movie is good. You can even say pretty good. What it isn't is epic.
