Letter: Internet tax would kill online sales industry

May 19, 2013

Every day, another example of stupidity of our elected officials comes shining through. This time it is trying to collect sales tax on internet sales. They do not realize there is shipping (and handling) with every order, and it is more than any state sales tax.

If a purchaser has to pay shipping and sales tax, that, no doubt, would kill the industry. Paying the extra cost would be more than buying it locally, saying nothing about availability.

That-a-way, boys -- kill a national industry to get a little more state revenue.
