SOFTBALL: Kennewick eliminates Sunnyside

May 13, 2013

Eva Guizar, Savannah Dixon and Bryanna DeRoos combined for the Kennewick Lions' first no-hitter since 2009, eliminating the Sunnyside Grizzlies in the District 5/8 softball tournament on Monday.

Kennewick coach Randy Scott wasn’t sure the trio was even aware of their accomplishment, however.

“I don’t think so. I’ll tell them (today) on the way to Spokane. They’ll be happy to hear that,” Scott said.

Guizar also had a fine day at the plate, driving in two runs and scoring two runs, while Kennewck teammate Karissa Shiflet went 2-for-3 with a two-run double to break the game open in the fifth inning.

Julisa Gonzalez, Natalie Mullen and Gabby Nava each had two hits for the Lions, who will travel to University High School today for a 4 p.m. loser-out game.
