Extra patrols scouting for drivers on cellphones, seat belt use

May 13, 2013

Law enforcement in Benton and Franklin counties will be beefing up patrols later this month in an effort to catch drivers not wearing seat belts and using cellphones.

Patrols will be out from May 20 to June 2 as part of Target Zero, which aims to end all traffic deaths by 2030.

Last year during the same period, patrols statewide issued 3,171 seatbelt tickets and 1,059 cellphone tickets, according to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
