Area golfers prepare for district tournaments

Area high school golfers take the spotlight this week as various district tournaments will be played to determine who gets to advance to the state tournaments next week.

For the Tri-City boys and girls who have battled each other all spring in the Mid-Columbia Conference, district will be a two-day, 36-hole adventure.

Most others in the lower classifications get 18 holes to show their stuff.

Here’s a quick reminder where, when and what’s at stake for all golfers.

Mid-Columbia Conference 4A boys: They’ll tee off at 1 p.m. today at Horn Rapids in Richland, then shoot a second 18 at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sun Willows in Pasco.

Golfers from Chiawana, Pasco, Richland and Walla Walla will be vying for five state tournament berths.

Those five will play in the 4A state tournament at Camas Meadows Golf Club on May 21-22.

Mid-Columbia Conference 4A girls: District starts at 9 a.m. today at Walla Walla Veterans, then moves over to Sun Willows in Pasco at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Again, like the boys, golfers from Chiawana, Pasco, Richland and Walla Walla will be vying for five state tournament berths.

The state tournament is May 21-22 at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver.

Mid-Columbia Conference 3A boys: They start district play at 2:30 p.m. today at Sun Willows, then shoot another round at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kennewick’s Canyon Lakes.

Golfers from Hanford, Kamiakin, Kennewick and Southridge will be battling for six state tournament berths.

The state tournament is May 21-22 at Tri-Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield.

Mid-Columbia Conference 3A girls: They start district play at 2:30 p.m. today at Horn Rapids, then shoot amnother round at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kennewick’s Canyon Lakes.

Golfers from Hanford, Kamiakin, Kennewick and Southridge will be battling for seven state tournament berths.

The state tournament is May 21-22 at Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland.

Oregon 5A boys and girls: Hermiston sends a full boys team to the state championships today and Tuesday at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis.

Hermiston has two girls, playing today and Tuesday at the state tournament at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks.

2A CWAC boys: The district tournament will be at Black Rock Creek in Sunnyside at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The top 14 placers will advance to the 2A state tournament, to be held May 21-22 at Chambers Bay in University Place.

2A CWAC girls: The girls district tournament takes place at Lakeview Golf & Country Club in Ephrata, starting at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Like the boys, the top 14 placers will advance to the 2A state tournament, to be held May 21-22. But their state tournament will be held at The Classic Golf Club in Spanaway.

1A SCAC: The boys and girls will hold their district tournament at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Suncadia.

The top 13 boys advance to the state tournament, while the top three girls will advance.

Both boys and girls will play the state tournament May 21-22 at Lake Spanaway Golf Course.

Southeast 1B/2B boys and girls: The district tournament is today at Palouse Ridge in Pullman, and it starts at noon.

The top nine placers in boys and the top nine in girls will earn state tournament berths.

The state tournament for both boys and girls is May 21-22 at Oakbrook Golf Course in Lakewood.
