Track and field: Kamiakin girls, Hanford boys win Class 3A district titles

The Kamiakin girls destroyed the competition Saturday at the Class 3A District 5 Track and Field Championships at Fran Rish Stadium in Richland.

The Braves won all but three events on the day, finishing with 319 points. Southridge was a distant second with 178 points, while Kennewick took third with 93 points.

Kamiakin got wins from Ellie Heiden (100, 200 and 400), Megan Beauchene (800 and 1,600), Michelle Fletcher (3,200), Lindsey Schauble (300 hurdles), Sira Toure (shot put), Elisa Grandemange (discus), Andrea Stapleton (high jump and triple jump), Danielle Brandon (pole vault) and Kyra Brannan (long jump). They also won the 4x200 and the 4x400 relays.

Heiden, who normally runs on the 4x100 relay, ran the open 100 instead and is eyeing running three individual events at the regional meet for the first time. Southridge got victories from Michelle Snider in the 100 hurdles and its 4x100 relay, while Kennewick had the other gold medal, as Kayla Kima won the javelin.

On the boys side, Hanford won six events to help it capture the team title with 208 points. Kamiakin was second with 183.5, while Southridge was third at 134.5.

Ben Kelly won the 100 and 200, Aaron Cunningham the shot put and discus, Seth Cook the 800 and Jordan Reyes won the triple jump for the Falcons. Austin Oser won the 1,600, Garrett Kraal the 3,200, Brendan Rexus the high jump and Ryan Bergman the pole vault for Kamiakin, which also won the 4x100 relay.

Southridge got victories from its 4x400 relay and Clay Gonzales (400) and Brenden Kelly (300 hurdles), while Sunnyside had golds from Elijah Pena (110 hurdles) and EricLee Amaro (javelin). Kennewick’s Jeremiah Sprague won the long jump.
