Baseball: Connell advances to District 5 title game

Connell 11, Cle Elum/Roslyn 3: Austin Forsyth hit a three-run home run and the host Eagles hammered the Warriors to earn a berth in the Class 1A state regionals and a spot in the District 5 title game.

Jess Hawk pitched five strong innings, Leo Bermudez closed it out and drove in three runs at the plate.

Warden 2, Highland 1: Jerry Reyes had a stalemate with Highland’s Parker Stohr on the mound, but the Cougars got the edge thanks to some aggressive base running by Guillermo Gonzales.

Warden scored two runs in the third with no hits, taking advantage of two walks and a couple of passed balls to start. Then Gonzales swung at strike three in the dirt and raced all the way to second base as Highland’s catcher had trouble tracking down the ball. Two more pitches in the dirt brought Gonzales home with the winning run.

Kiona-Benton 4, La Salle 3: Freshman Nate Rossine scored on a balk in the seventh inning to give Kiona-Benton a 4-3 lead over host La Salle in a loser-out contest in the 1A SCAC district tournament.

Rossine drove in the tying run in the seventh on a double, scoring his brother Kyle Rossine.

Reliever Carl Robb entered the game for teammate James Deaton in the bottom of the seventh, and he shut La Salle down to earn the save.

Naches Valley 10, Columbia (Burbank) 0 (5): The Coyotes were shut out in a Class 1A District 5 semifinal, as only Jose Barajas and Paden Kotwitz scratched out hits.
