A two-student team from Tri-Tech Skills Center took the top prize at a state auto technician competition Tuesday.

Eder Samaniego and Gerardo Rico each earned more than $23,000 in scholarships and qualified for the national competition at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Mich., in June.

A total of eight teams competed in the event, which was in Renton and sponsored by Ford Motor Company and AAA. A second team from Tri-Tech made up of students Ryan Walker and Todd Pink took third place at the competition. Instructors Larry Brookes and Lindahl Grant assisted the two teams, respectively.
