When it comes to economic policy I differ with progressives. Keynesian economic theory leads only to implosion, or total state control.
But there is a narrative that comes from the left that I agree with. We are creating terrorists. And we do so by a self-imposed mandate to spread democracy -- whether some countries want it or not. In reality, it's none of our business.
Radical Islamic terrorists don't hate us for our freedom. They don't hate us because we believe in equality for all genders, races, or creeds. They hate us because we meddle.
They hate us because we buy their elections, and because we topple and prop up regimes in their countries. They hate us because we interfere, and we have been doing so for generations.
Call me an isolationist if you like, but I firmly believe that the notions of democracy and equality are ends unto themselves. If those ideas can really work, people will gravitate. But it takes time.
We have no business telling another nation how it should operate. It is for the people of that nation to decide. And if they don't get a choice, we must learn to say "so be it."
