Milton-Freewater — A 51-year-old who allegedly stabbed another man multiple times near the former Oasis restaurant was being held in the Walla Walla County Jail this morning.
College Place police arrested James W. Jimmy Gore of Walla Walla after he reportedly stabbed Benny Beliz, 27, multiple times during an argument at about 5:17 p.m. Sunday, according to police and court documents.
Beliz was taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center with multiple stab wounds requiring surgery and intensive care, according to Walla Walla County Sheriffs Office Deputy Robert Clendaniels report. Clendaniel assisted College Place officers with the arrest.
Witnesses reported a red van fled the area shortly after the assault.
At about 9:45 p.m., College Place Police Officer Allan Thonney responded to a dispatch report of the suspect driving in the city.
Thonney conducted a high risk stop of the suspect vehicle on Southwest Ninth Street near Bade Avenue.
According to documents, Thonney found a packet of suspected methamphetamine in Gores pocket.
Gore reportedly told police that he just changed into the pants, and they didnt belong to him.
Clendaniel reported that he observed what appeared to be blood on the door handle of Gores van, and also two knives in the vehicle in plain view.
Gore was lodged at the Walla Walla County Jail on investigation of possession of methamphetamine and bail was set at $10,000.
The Umatilla County Sheriffs Office is investigating the reported stabbing, but did not comment on the case by press time this morning.
