Walla Walla man jailed in stabbing near Stateline

May 6, 2013

— A 51-year-old who allegedly stabbed another man multiple times near the former Oasis restaurant was being held in the Walla Walla County Jail this morning.

College Place police arrested James W. “Jimmy” Gore of Walla Walla after he reportedly stabbed Benny Beliz, 27, multiple times during an argument at about 5:17 p.m. Sunday, according to police and court documents.

Beliz was taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center with multiple stab wounds requiring surgery and intensive care, according to Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Robert Clendaniel’s report. Clendaniel assisted College Place officers with the arrest.

Witnesses reported a red van fled the area shortly after the assault.

At about 9:45 p.m., College Place Police Officer Allan Thonney responded to a dispatch report of the suspect driving in the city.

Thonney conducted a “high risk” stop of the suspect vehicle on Southwest Ninth Street near Bade Avenue.

According to documents, Thonney found a packet of suspected methamphetamine in Gore’s pocket.

Gore reportedly told police that he just changed into the pants, and they didn’t belong to him.

Clendaniel reported that he observed what appeared to be blood on the door handle of Gore’s van, and also two knives in the vehicle in plain view.

Gore was lodged at the Walla Walla County Jail on investigation of possession of methamphetamine and bail was set at $10,000.

The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the reported stabbing, but did not comment on the case by press time this morning.
