When he was younger, Manuel Mendoza liked watching his older brother Jose and sister Guadalupe play tennis. As he and his identical twin brother Luis got older, they put their soccer ball away and picked up tennis racquets.
It was fun to watch them play, said Mendoza, the Riverhawks No. 2 singles player. When we would see them play, we wanted to play against them. It was fun playing with them. We just kept with the sport.
Mendoza beat Hanfords Cyrus Stephens 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 last week to run his record to 11-2.
I think this is great, the right-hander said. I didnt think I would get this many wins. I think I have some pretty good serves and power on my forehand.
Mendoza has challenged Chiawanas No. 1 singles player Javan Olin several times, but cant quite beat his junior teammate.
I think he is a little better than me, Mendoza said.
