ConAgra Foods workers donate to food banks

Tri-City ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston employees recently donated more than 41,000 pounds of food to Second Harvest Tri-Cities, which acts as a food bank to local food banks.

The donation is part of an effort by more than 6,000 ConAgra Foods employees in Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, Oregon, Washington and Canada to help fight hunger.

"Lamb Weston employees are fulfilling their commitment to the communities in which we work, play and raise families," said Carol Samoray, food drive organizer and Pasco plant manager for ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston, in a news release. "We have a history of pitching in and helping our communities become the best they can be. These efforts include addressing hunger and ensuring our neighbors -- especially children -- have enough to eat."

ConAgra Foods has seven Lamb Weston plants in the Columbia Basin. Each year those plants process 11 billion potatoes from Columbia Basin fields. That's enough potatoes to fill 350 football fields 6 feet deep.
