2 killed after rolling Jeep into Moses Lake

May 1, 2013

— Two young men died Wednesday morning when a Jeep went down an embankment and rolled into Moses Lake.

A late-model Jeep with four people inside was seen speeding east on Valley Road at 1:05 a.m., according to the Moses Lake Police Department.

The Jeep went through a red light at Stratford Road and through a parking lot before hitting a PUD power box next to Eddie’s Restaurant, according to police reports.

It crossed the grass, landing in the lake upside down in water about five feet deep.

One man, age 20, got out of the car by himself.

A witness and Moses Lake police officers went into the water to try to free the remaining people, but could not get them out.

Moses Lake Fire Department then used hydraulic tools to force open a door and was able to rescue another 20-year-old man.

However, a 21-year-old and 20-year-old man died inside the Jeep. Their families were being notified Wednesday morning.

Police believe alcohol was a factor.
