Once a winner, always a winner.

Sneakin Bye, a 3-year-old filly who has done most of her racing at Portland Meadows in the last year, finished a full length ahead of Shake Wide Open on Sunday to win the $3,300 Sun Downs Quarter Horse Derby at Sun Downs race track in Kennewick.

Ridden by Jose A. Guerrero, Sneakin Bye covered the 350 yards in 18.11 seconds.

In eight starts, she now has career earnings of $24,565.

Owned by Gary Chumbley and trained by Scott Raley, Sneakin Bye’s last race was in December, when she won the $28,400 Baxter Andruss Oregon Bred Futurity at Portland Meadows.

In the $2,000 Intermountain Classic at 4 furlongs, Private Swing with rider Ruben Camacho won by 21⁄4 lengths.

Sunday’s victory also was her career fourth, and she has won three of her last four races.

An estimated 1,000 fans wagered a total handle of $38,545 on the day despite some gusting winds.

Trey Fecta struggled at the betting parlor again on Sunday, losing $47 for the day. With two days of racing remaining, Trey has $105.20 left in his imaginary bankroll, which opened the six-date meet at $300.

The final two dates of horse racing will be next Saturday and Sunday — and they will be the meet’s biggest racing days.

On Saturday, fans will be able to wager on the Kentucky Derby. The American Quarter Horse Association’s Maiden Challenge finals and the Zoetis Starter Allowance Challenge finals will be run that day.

The two big races on Sunday will be the Pot O’Gold Futurity and the AQHA Meriel Distaff Challenge finals.
