Richland man caught with child pornography

A 68-year-old man was allegedly caught with child pornography on his computer after taking it to a Richland business for a virus cleanup.

Charles Lane Faubert pleaded innocent Thursday to second-degree possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Trial is set for June 24.

The Richland man took his laptop to Cline Computers on Oct. 11. An employee completed the work but contacted police after finding thumbnail pictures and videos of apparent child porn, court documents said.

Richland police Detective Bob Benson, who is trained in computer forensics, found 11 videos of young girls involved in different sex acts with adult men, documents said. Benton also allegedly located photos of the girls exposing their genitals.

The videos and photos were accessed from Oct. 29, 2011, to Oct. 7, 2012.

In an interview with police, Faubert admitted downloading inappropriate videos of children, court documents said. He said he knew it was wrong but believed he was not hurting anyone.

Faubert is out of custody on his personal recognizance.
