Letter: A big Chief Jo welcome to new students and parents

April 21, 2013

As an active member of the Chief Joseph Middle School Parent Teacher Association since 2008, I would like to dispel some of the false impressions about Chief Jo that quotes in the Tri-City Herald's April 12 article, may have left readers with about our school. The Chief Jo drama club presents a musical every fall. Chief Jo also has active robotics, chess, Math is Cool, and computer clubs along with respected music and athletic programs. Magie Wade, a Chief Jo physical education teacher, won Advisor of the Year in 2012 for the school's Fuel Up to Play 60 Program. We have dedicated parents who come to the school at recess to pass out playground balls.

My daughter attended Chief Jo from 2008-2011 and is now, along with many of her classmates, an honor student at Hanford High School.

I am happy that new middle school boundaries will bring new families to join and appreciate our school. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome those new families to the Chief Jo community and encourage them to join the PTA so we can all work together for a great education for all of Richland's and West Richland's children.
