Softball: Walla Walla, Richland sweep

Ellie Rassbach had six hits with two home runs and seven RBIs, as visiting Walla Walla swept Southridge 15-1 and 23-6 in a Mid-Columbia Conference softball doubleheader in Kennewick on Tuesday.

In the opener, Southridge’s Jordan Ziemba hit a home run over the second fence, a shot of about 275 feet.

Ziemba also homered in the nightcap.

Richland 9-16, Hanford 6-1: Abby Perryman provided the timely plays in the opener, and April Utecht the big bombers in the finale as the Bombers swept a pair of Mid-Columbia games at home.

Perryman got the final out to end the Falcons’ four-run rally in the fifth inning, then smacked a three-run shot to give the lead back to Richland. She finished pitching a scoreless sixth and seventh.

Utecht went 4-for-4 in the finale, hitting her eighth and ninth homers of the season and driving in five runs.

Chiawana 15-6, Kennewick 8-3: Chiawana took an early lead and kept piling on the runs to beat Kennewick 15-8 in the first game of their Mic-Columbia Conference doubleheader.

Ashley Ellison drove in three runs with a triple, while Maddie Heine went 4-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs.

In the nightcap, Whitney Weber drove in three runs for the Riverhawks as they completed the sweep.

Jessica Hawkins was 6-for-9 for Connell (11-0, 4-0), while Alex Shuster was 6-for-9 with two home runs and seven RBIs.
