The Pasco boys soccer team prides itself on defense.

The Bulldogs back line came through in the biggest way Thursday, recording its sixth shutout of the season in a 1-0 overtime win against first-place Hanford in a Mid-Columbia Conference showdown at Edgar Brown Stadium.

“(Hanford) applied a good amount of pressure, but our back line was able to get a shutout,” Bulldogs coach Matt Potter said. “We gave up a couple goals against Kennewick, so as a unit, we’re particularly proud of getting back to that shutout.”

Pasco goalkeeper Jon Rosas made five saves to record his league-leading sixth shutout.

The game-winning goal came in the 84th minute, when Jaime Valdivia found Orlando Diaz, who had an open shot from 12 yards out. Diaz then beat Falcons goalkeeper Jacob Thiel to end the game.

“It was definitely a game deserving of overtime,” Potter said. “Between two good teams.”

Pasco (7-5 overall, 6-4 MCC) moves into fourth place, one game behind Richland (7-3, 6-3). Hanford (8-4, 7-3) fell into second place, a half game behind first-place Kennewick (9-2, 7-2).
