Thankful Thursday: Student from China living the American dream

April 11, 2013

A heartwarming story of a truly dedicated and talented local teenager unfolded at the recent high school science and history fair competitions.

Delta High school sophomore Zongchen Yang won the blue ribbon in the regional competition for his National History Day entry and advances to the state finals in Bellevue on May 5.

Zongchen also advanced to the state finals in the National Science Fair for his entry on gravity.

What is most remarkable about these achievements is that Zongchen has been in the United States less than three years. His parents moved here in the summer of 2010 from Beijing, China, to enroll him in Delta High School. He spoke very little English, understood less and could read almost none.

Zongchen Yang is a living example of a youngster aspiring to the American Dream. Congratulations to Delta High and Zongchen (Jack) Yang!
