Hanford girls, Richland boys win golf pods

The Hanford jugernaut kept rolling along Tuesday as the Falcons ran away with the Mid-Columbia Conference girls golf pod match at Horn Rapids in Richland.

Taylor Kain-Godoy, Kelsey Aiello, Kate Stephens and Lacy Skwarek finished 2-5 to lead Hanford to a 317 team score, 49 better than second-place Kennewick.

Kain-Godoy and Aiello shot 5-over-par 77s, two strokes off the pace set by Pasco frehsman Jalayne Martinez. Stephens shot 81, while Skwarek and Southrige’s Catherine Warner carded 82s.

Aiello also had an eagle on the par-5 third hole. Richland’s Allison Creager also had an eagle, on the fifth.

Mid-Columbia boys pod: Richland and Hanford staged a heated battle, with the Bombers placing all four of their scorers in the top 10 to edge the Falcons by four points.

Richland’s Hunter Thompson set the pace with an even-par 72, two strokes ahead of Hanford’s Tanner Martin and three up on the Falcons’ Zach Betzsold. Walla Walla’s Dean Atkinson broke up the city of Richland’s monopoly with a 76 to match Jeffrey Marcum’s score for Richland. Hanford’s Eric Dahl (77) and Richland’s Drew McCullough and Hunter Ashby (78s) rounded up the top eight.
