Letter: Moving the trash cans will just mean park gets trashed

April 7, 2013

Richland residents may have noticed that the parks department has removed all the conveniently located garbage cans and relocated them in clusters in parking lots. This was done to allow garbage pickup by the large trucks used for residential homes. In other words they are making trash pickup more convient for those emptying the cans and significantly less convenient for the park patrons. I believe the end result of this will be the trashing of our parks. It is already happening as folks leave trash at former trash can locations -- and I don't blame them.

My wife and I often pick up trash left after a big weekend and I can't help but believe it is going to get much worse now. If you, as I do, believe this is a very bad idea, I suggest you call the parks department and let them know.
