Soccer: Pasco tops Chiawana 2-1

Pasco 2, Chiawana 1: Miguel Chavez knotted the score in the 65th minute and Emilio Meraz-Rodriguez scored the winner 12 minutes later for the Bulldogs on Saturday.

Cezar Leon gave the Riverhawks an early lead in the 20th minute.

Kennewick 1, Walla Walla 0: Miguel Lopez finally broke a scoreless tie in the 71st minute as the Lions won yet another close Mid-Col match.

“The scoreline is indicative of our season and the league in general,” said Kennewick coach Brian Gochoel, whose team improved to 6-2 in the MCC. “Each one of our results, they’ve all been one-goal affairs. ... Walla Walla is sitting at 1-7 now in league, but they’re every bit as good as the (other five) teams we’ve beat thus far. It speaks well of our league, the fact that there’s a lot of parody.

“It’s going to be a sprint to the finish.”

Gochoel gave a nod to center backs Sam Borja and Ramiro Chavez for their play on the defensive side.

West Valley 1, Grandview 0: David Ellis scored for the Rams in the closing seconds as the Greyhounds dropped a CWAC road match.

“They stole it in the last 30 seconds,” Grandview coach Anne Holden said. “We had pushed up, pushed a couple extra numbers up, and they got a long ball out, and the counter attack was on.

“They got out of jail.”

Ellensburg 4, Othello 1: Ramon Gonzalez scored two goals in the first 18 minutes, and the host Bulldogs knocked off the Huskies in CWAC action.

Jason Rodriguez scored for Othello in the 67th minute after Ellensburg had capped its scoring.

Royal 3, Connell 0: Marcos Quiroz got the scoring started 7 minutes into the second half, and the Knights caught fire after that for an SCAC win over the visiting Eagles.

Kiona-Benton 2, Wahluke 1: Jhonatan Gutierrez converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute after a careless Wahluke penalty, giving the Bears an SCAC East home win over the Warriors.

“Their goalkeeper (Alan Caro) jumped up and socked one of my forwards right in the head,” Ki-Be coach Marty Martinez said.

Zachary Metcalf made eight saves for the Bears (2-5).
