Franklin County commissioners on Wednesday morning reviewed the emergency communications agreement thats been making the rounds of local jurisdictions.
They put off approving the pact to give county legal staff time to review it, but are expected to sign off next week. Commissioners indicated they support the concept of regionalizing emergency communications in the Tri-Cities and want a road map for forming the new entity.
I think it makes an awful lot of sense for us to move forward with (creation of a plan)," said Commissioner Brad Peck, whos been working on the issue with officials from other local governments.
Under the agreement -- among Benton and Franklin counties and the cities of Richland, Pasco and Kennewick -- a consultant would be hired to design a regionalization plan. A final decision about whether to move forward would come once the plan lays out details.
The four other jurisdictions all have approved the pact in the last week or so.
