Letter: Bad behavior isn't the dog's or the breed's fault

April 3, 2013

I am writing this letter about the owner of the pitbull that attacked my min-pin mix, west of Badger Mountain Park. I had seen them coming, realized the dogs were off-leash and I attempted to leave the immediate area. The pitbull came through the sagebrush and jumped on my dog. (Both my dogs were on-leash). The owner pulled the dog off and promptly disappeared! The couple that was with the owner decently asked if my dog was OK and apologized. The owner did not.

My dog was treated by my vet for a dog bite and infection. According to her we were very lucky she was not killed.

I do not blame the dog or the breed; I blame the human! Gandhi is credited with saying "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." This dog's behavior speaks to its owner's character. Shameful.
