Man faces June 10 trial in illegal weapons case

Officers responding to a domestic violence call last month allegedly found an assault rifle and bags and jars full of marijuana inside a Kennewick home.

Johnnie Durwood Killgore, 47, is not allowed to own or possess any firearms because he has multiple felony convictions, including second-degree burglary, court documents said.

So after Killgore's son tipped off police about his father's rifle during the March 24 call, officers got a search warrant to look for a weapon, court documents said. They found the assault rifle and ammunition under the bed in the master bedroom and saw a large amount of marijuana about three feet from the firearm, so they got the search warrant amended to look for drugs, documents said.

The marijuana allegedly found under the bed was in gallon-size bags inside a large storage container and weighed in excess of one ounce. Also seized in the house was a large box full of a "loose green vegetable matter" that appeared to be marijuana, and additional bags and jars of the same substance, court documents said.

Before the search warrant was executed, Killgore denied that there was an assault rifle in his house, documents said. After it was recovered, he allegedly admitted to handling the rifle but said it didn't belong to him.

Killgore has pleaded innocent to first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana with intent to manufacture or deliver. His trial is set for June 10.

Man gets June 3 trial in alleged theft of sofas

A 49-year-old man faces trial June 3 for allegedly leasing three sofas from a Kennewick business, then falling behind on his payments and selling the goods to avoid eviction.

John Lonal Nealy pleaded innocent to theft of rental property over $750.

Court documents show that Nealy first entered into a lease agreement Feb. 9, 2012, with Rent-A-Center for a loveseat and sofa. The monthly payment was $126.65.

Then on May 31, Nealy returned to the West Clearwater Avenue store and signed an agreement for a sectional sofa, with a $126.06 monthly payment.

Nealy failed to pay the store in June and July, documents said.

Rent-A-Center employees made numerous calls to Nealy to work out additional payment arrangements, but the renter never handed over any more money, documents said.

The rental agreements expired Aug. 3 after 60 days without any payments. A letter was sent Sept. 4 by certified mail to Nealy advising him to return the three sofas, but he didn't do that and failed to make arrangements for the store to pick them up, court documents said.

So on Sept. 27, two employees went to Nealy's home. Nealy allegedly told the employees he sold the sofas to get money to pay his rent so that he would not be evicted.

The three sofas originally were valued at $2,177. At the time of the theft, it cost Rent-A-Center $889 to replace the three items.
