Letter: Guns are for when the government doesn't make it in time

April 2, 2013

The letter by Edward Rykiel (March 12) forces me to respond. Normally, I ignore outrageous rants by either side of an issue. I don't know what media Mr. Rykiel follows, but it is not anything by the NRA or any responsible armed citizens.

The following is a quote by Wayne LaPierre, NRA Executive Vice President.

"We, the American people, clearly see the daunting forces we will undoubtedly face: terrorists, crime, drug gangs, the possibility of Euro-style debt riots, civil unrest or natural disaster. Gun owners are not buying firearms because they anticipate a confrontation with the government. Rather, we anticipate confrontations where the government isn't there -- or simply doesn't show up in time."
