Letter: Crack down on jaywalking before someone gets hurt

April 1, 2013

I think police should try harder to stop jaywalking, because in the past few weeks I have seen numerous people, primarily teenagers, just walking across a busy street without a care in the world or looking both ways.

This carelessness puts me and other drivers at risk of being rear-ended when we are forced to make a sudden stop.

The saddest thing is that these pedestrians walking across a street illegally are within walking distance of a streetlight that has a crosswalk.

People who jaywalk next to a perfectly good crosswalk make me wonder why we pay taxes, because part of our taxes pay for the upkeep of crosswalks and fewer and fewer people use them.
