NWAACC baseball: CBC sweeps Blue Mountain

March 30, 2013

If you don’t make your first road trip until 18 games into the season, then a trip to Pendleton is a safe way to start.

Daniel Neville threw eight strong innings, and Joe Roletto and Kenton Brunson each hit two-run doubles early as Columbia Basin College cruised to an 11-3 win over Blue Mountain to complete an NWAACC East Region sweep of the host Timberwolves on Saturday.

The Hawks (11-9, 3-1 East) had to endure a bit of self-imposed drama in the opener, a 10-8 win in 10 innings. Nick Savas’ sacrifice fly and Travis Key’s double drove in a pair of runs in the final frame after CBC gave away an early lead over Blue Mountain (0-4, 2-18).

Zach Rapacz hit a two-run double and Braden Wolgamott the first of his three doubles as the Hawks struck for three runs in their first turn and led 5-2 after three. But six CBC errors helped the Timberwolves chip away.

The Hawks had 23 hits on the day, 14 of them for extra bases. But then, the combined records of Blue Mountain’s two losing pitchers is 1-10.
