For most of Wednesday nights Mid-Columbia Conference soccer match between the Pasco Bulldogs and Kennewick Lions, neither side could break through.
In the shootout, however, it was all Kennewick.
Henry Hernandez stopped three Pasco shooters, and Ramiro Chavez, Uriel Ramirez and Danny Uribe had goals to lead the undefeated Lions to a 1-0 victory at Lampson.
Pasco is a quality team, well coached, Kennewick coach Brian Gochoel said. We were fortunate to have Henry step up and make those saves in the shootout.
Oswaldo Ayala had Pascos lone goal in the shootout, and Jon Rosas finished with four saves for the Bulldogs.
Gochoel was relieved to get the win on a night when the wind wouldnt cooperate with either team.
The wind affected the game profoundly, and playing in gale-force wind, its tough to play the game properly, but both teams played well, he said. Its just a 0-0 match, and we won the coin flip with the shootout.
With the win, Kennewick improved to 3-0 in the MCC and 5-0 overall.
Gochoel said facing Pasco always is a challenge, but the Lions tried not to play into the Bulldogs hands.
Its more about just trying to play within our system and create as many chances as possible, he said. We were able to do so, especially in the second half.
