Softball: Thompson leads Connell to sweep of Kennewick

Connell 12-15, Kennewick 2-1: Ashley Thompson struck out 22 batters over 10 innings and stroked a home run in a 15-1 Game 2 shellacking as the Eagles crushed the host Lions in a nonleague doubleheader Tuesday.

Thompson, a BYU-bound fireballer, allowed just three runs on four hits on the day.

Michelle Schultz blasted two home runs in the nightcap as well for Connell.

Pendleton 15-21, Southridge 5-0: The Suns rallied late in Game 1 with a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh, but couldn’t catch up to the visiting Buckaroos in a nonleague doubleheader loss.

Sarah Gilliam and Makensie Meyer each had two hits in the opener for Southridge.
