Letter: Increase in national debt means kids don't come first

Published: March 19, 2013

First Lady Michelle Obama was recently on ABC's Good Morning America TV show, discussing gun control issues, and made the following statement: "I just don't want to keep disappointing our kids in the country. I want them to know that we put them first."

I believe the entire country is behind the goal of putting our kids first when it comes to gun control measures. However, with President Obama's historical out-of-control borrowing to spend, I don't see how our president and first lady are putting our kids' interests first.

In fact, each time the president increases the national deficit he is in fact borrowing from our kids. When they become adults, they will be disappointed, because they will have to deal with the president's current borrowing-to-spend addiction.
