Juveniles investigated in Kennewick car thefts

— Police are investigating a series of car prowls that occurred over the weekend in Kennewick.

Seven cars were reported to have various items stolen from them, including a woman's urn with her mother’s ashes in it, Sgt. Ken Lattin said.

Four of the cars were parked near Benton Street, two were parked in the Columbia Center Mall parking lot and another was parked on West Grand Ronde Avenue.

Lattin said police arrested three juveniles on Saturday while recovering stolen property, although it’s unclear if those teens are involved in any way with the series of thefts over the weekend.

Lattin said police were able to arrest the suspects after a woman saw her ring, which was stolen from her car March 12, on Craigslist. The woman posed as a potential buyer and police were able to arrest the suspects after they communicated with the woman, Lattin said.

Police are still looking for three other teens in relation to the stolen property case. Lattin said all six of the juveniles are being investigated for the break-ins over the weekend, as well as others in the area.

Lattin said a handgun, an iPad, a GPS device, multiple cell phone chargers, a bluetooth headset, a radio and baseball gear were taken during the break-ins.
