A 30-year-old Richland man who received a double lung transplant nearly two years ago has died.

Matthew Gregory passed away Thursday in Seattle. He was born with cystic fibrosis and received the transplant in mid-2011 at the University of Washington Medical Center.

The surgery came around his birthday, and the new lungs were “the best gift I could have received,” he told his family on the way to the hospital, according to a Herald story at the time. Gregory was featured on the front page of the paper after the operation.

Mueller’s Tri-Cities Funeral Home in Kennewick is handling funeral arrangements.
