Eleven elementary school students from throughout the Kennewick School District presented their own healthy salad recipes Thursday as part of a nationwide cooking competition.

The students were selected from more than 60 who submitted recipe ideas for the Healthy Salad Challenge put on by school meals provider Sodexo.

The competition was part of Sodexo’s involvement in First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative and meant to teach the importance of healthy eating.

The winning student from Kennewick will go on to a regional competition, with the winner there competing to be one of five national finalists to have their recipe voted on by a public vote on YouTube.
